Russia (September 2-13, 2017)

Appropriately being the largest country in the world, Russia hosted the 8th  IMRB conference  themed “Extending Knowledge Improving Safety” and this would be the longest in duration and most extensive IMRB conference that included visits to 3 cities: Moscow, Novokuznetsk and Saint Petersburg.  Mine visits included open cast and underground operations. An exclusive tour of the underground subway extension being constructed in Moscow which was both impressive and truly a learning experience.

The newly constructed EMERCOM central headquarters of mines rescue located in Novokuznetsk located in Siberia was a highlight and included everything from learning about leading-edge mines rescue research to an incredibly realistic simulation that included explosions, fires and  aerial response capability .

Participants toured the Saint Petersburg Mining University and had the opportunity to meet with professors and students and were exposed to a world-class academic institution.
